In this three-part series, we're going to focus on the five common body shapes:
  • Circle

  • Hourglass

  • Triangle

  • Inverted Triangle

  • Rectangle.

Before we dive into how to determine your body shape, let's briefly go over the basics.

BODY TYPE BASICS

There are three elements to body type:
  • body shape

  • torso length

  • leg length

These three elements make up your unique body type, and it's important to know all three in order to understand how your clothing should fit to complement your body.

In this series, we'll be solely focusing on body shape, but if you are ready to dive deep into learning about your body type check out the Mind Body Style coaching program.

DETERMINING YOUR BODY SHAPE

To determine your body shape, you'll need to measure your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips.

Write down those measurements, so that you can compare them to one another.

Bonus: These measurements will also come in handy when shopping online. Use them to gauge the sizing charts on different retail websites.

The circle body shape means that you have more volume in your waist.
Your waist measures larger than your shoulders, bust, and hips.

The hourglass body shape means that your waist is smaller while your shoulders, bust, and hips are similar in measurement.

The triangle body shape means you have more volume in your lower body. Your hips measure larger than your shoulders, bust, and waist.

The inverted triangle body type means that you have more volume in your upper body. Your shoulders and/or bust measure larger than your waist and hips.

The rectangle body type means that your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips are similar in measurement.

If you're curious and want to discover more about your unique body type, be sure to check out the Mind Body Style coaching program, where we explore all three elements of your body type.
